My BA paper got stuck yet again. Heh…
Does anyone here is interested in linguistics? I mean the academic type linguistics. I’m desperate for any books and/or papers on the use on archaisms in modern renditions of Middle English texts. If anyone happened to ever glimpse such a thing, no matter how small, please let me know. I know the chances are more than slim but… Can’t blame me for trying, no?
On a lighter note, I was at the theatre with my mother and brother on Saturday. Polish rendition of Phantom of the Opera. Loved every last bit of it. If not for the money issue (a cost for moderately good place, train to Warsaw and back, and a night in a reasonably good hotel for one person is about…300PLN. That’s exactly what I pay a month for my room in the students house;) I’d go every weekend.
The actors were chosen brilliantly. Christine is played by Kaja Mianowana, an 18-year-old girl that debuted a few years ago in Cats. She has unbelievable voice! And Luke Zagrobelny, a well established actor with a beautiful baritone voice, as Phantom proved to be a very good choice indeed. I must admit I had my doubts when I first heard of this choice. I’m glad to have been wrong.
And the stage design! They got the permission to photograph Opera Garnier and its underground levels. The photos and films were then turned into a presentation. It was projected at times during the play. Most notably in the scene of Christine’s first descend into Eric’s little music nest. It was breathtaking.
The next day before catching the train home we got to visit the National Gallery and the Museum of the Warsaw Insurrection. Overall, the weekend was a blast and a much needed respite from RL’s bitchiness (even if I’ve strained a tendon and my foot is killing me now =} ).
